The Code for Sustainable Homes (often known as CfSH or simply "The Code" and BREEAM (the non-domestic equivalent) are objective and independently certified methods of assessing the holistic sustainability of buildings. They cover everything from Energy and Water use through to Ecology and Waste.
Following assessment you achieve a rating for the building being assessed. For the Code for Sustainable Homes you are likely to be targeting to be Level 3, 4, 5 or 6 whereas for BREEAM this will be Good, Very Good, Excellent or Outstanding.
Due to the comprehensive nature of the issues being assessed, these schemes they can be complicated and daunting for the uninitiated.
